Ozone Generators - Product Selection
Selection of Unit Type
Air Treatment Units (Air Purifier)
These are single purpose units, and are configured such that the Ozone Generator can only be utilised as an Air Purifier to treat the surrounding air and contact surfaces. They are typically used for odour removal, VOC abatement, disinfection, and Allergy reduction. There are no external pipework connections for distributing the ozone to other locations or for connecting to a water source for infusion into the water to create Ozonated Water. These units can be portable or fixed in position and have a fan incorporated into the unit. Additional external fans may be advantageous to achieve a more uniform Ozone distribution for the purification process.
These units have dual capability, and all utilise a “tube” type ozone cell which is coupled internally to an external connection point on the unit, to which the user can distribute the Ozone to wherever it is required for an Air Treatment, or alternatively, infuse the Ozone into water. The infusion into water is best achieved by the use of a high efficiency Venturi Injector (or similar device), or by simply bubbling the Ozone through the water. The latter method is only used in domestic applications as it is easy to implement – but less efficient at transfering the Ozone gas into the water. These Ozone Generators can be coupled to ventilation ducts and extraction ducting (commercials kitchens etc.) for the destruction of VOC's, odours, and the killing of bacteria, viruses and mould spores etc.
Choice of Ozone “Cell” Material
All ozone generators utilize an Ozone “Cell” to create the Ozone. These are divided into :
- “Tube” type (Quartz Glass or Stainless Steel)
- “Plate” type (Ceramic Plate with Metal inlay, or Metal plates separated by Mica plates)
Ozone “Tubes” are commonly utilised in Ozone generators used for Ozonating water (for a multitude of domestic & commercial applications), as well as for Air treatments (odour elimination, disinfection, and allergy reduction). The “tube” cell can be incorporated into Water Treatment units and Combined Air-Water Treatment units.
Ozone “Plates” are only used in Air Treatment applications, and are considerably better than Ozone “Tubes”.
Ceramic Ozone Plates are preferred for Air Treatment (Purifier) applications, because they:
- produce a lower temperature Ozone-Air mixture – which creates Ozone with a longer life;
- are extremely durable and can handle relatively rough treatment;
- are easily cleaned;
- can be visually inspected for the presence of dirt (which reduces the ozone output);
- have a longer life
Mica Ozone Cells should be avoided since :
- Mica plates give an inconsistent Ozone output ;
- Mica plates (and the generator) require very careful handling to avoid damage or misalignment of the plates – leading to faulty operation or failure ;
- The numerous plates must be disassembled to clean (followed by time-consuming re-assembly and alignment);
- Mica plates become extremely hot – which produces ozone with a shorter life (hence lower effective output).
All Ozone generators for Air Treatment applications supplied by Ozone Systems, utilise the superior Ceramic Plate technology.
