     Ozone - “Nature's Cleanser”

The Only Safe, Effective & Natural Solution

greenglobepicture

What is Ozone?

Ozone is found naturally high up in the earth’s atmosphere at greatest concentration and is responsible for filtering out harmful UV rays (which creates the Ozone) and eliminating the ‘Greenhouse Effect’. Closer to the ground, Ozone is found at much lower concentrations, and is created in nature by lightning (high voltage arcing) and UV light. It is the odour of Ozone that gives that fresh, clean smell after a thunderstorm!

Ozone is created by splitting an Oxygen molecule (O2) under high energy to form O- ions. The single O- ion  then attaches itself to another O2 molecule to create Ozone (O3). This Ozone (O3) molecule is extremely unstable - therefore reacts readily & rapidly with most things which can be oxidised. Ozone is created artificially by mimicking the action of lightning, by passing air/oxygen through a high voltage electrical corona within an Ozone Generator.

Ozone’s Useful Properties

Ozone only exists for a short while after being created – then breaks down and reverts back to pure Oxygen gas (O2). Therefore any Ozone which has not reacted with other compounds after this short life, reverts simply back to its Oxygen state (O2) leaving NO CHEMICAL RESIDUALS from the parent reactant! This is very beneficial in terms of the worldwide drive to adopt Environmentally friendly practices. Ozone’s negative environmental impact is negligible.

Ozone is the second-most powerful naturally occurring oxidant (& steriliser) in the world. Ozone is1½ x more reactive than Chlorine as an Oxidiser, and reacts 3000 x faster than Chlorine! However – Chlorine and many of its commercial compounds are extremely hazardous to work with – whilst Ozone is relatively safe to work with. Storage and practical use aspects also need to be addressed. Ozone is produced at the point of application and is made on demand – thereby avoiding the need to store and handle dangerous chemicals.

Ozone is a Gas - therefore percolates into places which are inaccessible or practically impossible to sanitize with detergents. This is particularly useful in the food and environmental health sectors as it negates the problem of “missed” areas resulting from manual methods as well as effectively treating non-accessible surfaces contaminated with bacteria, viruses & moulds, odour particles etc.

Ozone can destroy every known bacteria and virus, including the H1N1 Swine Flu and Bird Flu viruses - to name a few. Micro-organisms such as bacteria and viruses cannot build up a tolerance to ozone (acquired resistance) as they can (and do) to antibiotics and other commonly used disinfecting agents used in hospitals, homes, and food manufacturing factories etc.

The production cost of Ozone is virtually negligible – especially in comparison with conventional chemicals, thereby yielding significant savings and effectiveness in sanitizing costs as there is no cost of consumables. Significant labour costs are also achieved. Most ozone systems can be fully or semi-automated to facilitate low labour costs.

Ozone Generators are very compact, and many are portable, thereby facilitating the use of the same equipment at different locations, thus minimising investment cost and space requirements etc. Ozone gas can be introduced into rooms etc. directly via an ozone generator placed inside the room, or via injection into ventilation ducts where it is effectively distributed.

To-date, no link between cancer and the use of Ozone has been proved, so it can effectively be considered non-carcinogenic.

Ozone’s Main Uses

Odour Removal (Deodoriser) & VOC Abatement

Through oxidation, Ozone reacts with the offending odour-causing and VOC molecules, thus destroying them and their associated odours. Unlike aerosol sprays – ozone does not simply mask the smell. Due to Ozone being a gas, all possible infected contact surfaces are treated (walls, floors, ceilings, shelves, switches etc.) including inaccessible areas such as cracks.

Ozone destroys a multitude of odours from both organic as well as inorganic sources as well as VOCs from manufacturing processess and end products, but is most effective against organic odours (Volatile Organic Compounds -VOC's). Typical odours which are oxidised by Ozone include :

Ozone can eliminate (or greatly reduce) the smells of literally thousands of chemical substances! Should you have a particular odour removal problem and would like to know if Ozone would provide a solution, please forward your enquiry to : info@ozonesystems.co.uk .

Disinfection

Ozone is an extremely powerful Bactericide, Viricide, Algaecide & Fungicide and destroys these organisms mainly by rupturing the cell membrane of the Bacteria, Virus, Fungus, Yeast, and Mould cells.

Numerous worldwide medical studies (including testing at both Campden and Chorleywood Food Research Association and Manchester University) have concluded that Ozone destroys food poisoning and disease-causing organisms such as Salmonella, E- Coli, Listeria, Staphylococcus Aureus, Bacillus Cereus,  Legionella, Swine Flu (H1N1), bird Flu, MRSA, and Common Cold viruses (amongst others) in a matter of seconds to a few minutes – a fraction of the time required by other conventional chemicals.

Due to Ozone being a gas, all possible infected contact surfaces are treated (walls, floors, ceilings, shelves, switches etc.) including normally inaccessible areas such as cracks as well as the air that is present at the time of the treatment. This property is particularly useful for the preventive control of the H1N1 Swine Flu virus outbreaks in schools, playgroups, public transport vehicles etc.

Micro-organisms cannot build up an acquired resistance to ozone as they can (and do) to other antibiotics and disinfecting agents.

The disinfection can be achieved in a number of ways:

Allergy Reduction

An Ozone treatment eliminates any protein based allergen that comes into contact with the Ozone. Consequently, Ozone sanitisation can provide a massive reduction of indoor allergens within a matter of hours. It is not only extremely effective – but is also extremely cost-effective!

Only Ozone is effective at destroying all of the following Allergens at the same time:

  • House Dust Mites
  • Tobacco Smoke particles embedded on walls, carpets, curtains, furnishings etc.
  • Mould / Mildew / Fungal spores
  • Pollen
  • Pet Dander
dust mites

When used at regular intervals, Ozone sanitisation will significantly reduce the accumulation of allergens in any indoor environment - providing a significant improvement to the health and quality of life of those affected by indoor allergies.
