Why Purchase from Ozone Systems?
Ozone Systems is a UK-Based supplier of ozone generators and associated equipment and accessories. We have an incredible record in terms of minimal product defects and are confident that we are offering top quality products at value-for-money prices. Our equipment is packed with useful features which enable us to meet the requirements of the majority of customers.
Ozone Systems only sell equipment and associated accessories related to the use of ozone, and are not simply a "mail order" business selling a wide array of products without any in-depth knowledge of our products. As such, we do not simply refer you to your user manual - we will give you the personal assistance and knowledge which you deserve as one of our customers. We will allways give you unbiased information - not simply what you would like to hear!
Whilst you may be able to find products of a similar claimed ozone output from overseas suppliers, we suggest that you seriously consider the following:
- You will have little to no consumer right protection as UK consumers are only protected within the UK i.e. when supplied by a UK-Based supplier.
- The purchase price is only the beginning. In addition to the shipping cost, you are deemed to have imported the goods and will therefor be liable for "Import Duty" plus "Import VAT", which you will have to pay to HMRC before the goods are released to you.
- With overseas suppliers, If the goods need to be returned to the supplier abroad (even when under warranty), the customer pays for the shipping on both the outward and incoming leg of the shipping to and from the supplier - this would not be permitted with a UK-based supplier.
- In the event of you requiring technical assistance, you could find yourself stranded - especially if the supplier is based in a non-English speaking country.
Is Ozone Safe to Work with?
- The simple answer is - Yes.
- Ozone Systems offer a treatment service, whereby your premises are treated by way of a high dosage “shock treatment” for 1-2 hours using an ozone generator. However, the premises are vacated by people and pets for the duration of the treatment and during the purging period (of approx. 1.5hrs) where the Ozone is ventilated out of the building and also allowed to break down naturally to its original Oxygen gas state.
- Alternatively, Ozone Systems supply appropriate Ozone generators to our customers. The customer can then carry out treatments of their premises in accordance with simple safety precautions detailed in the operating instructions supplied with the unit. In fact, our units can safely be utilized in occupied rooms, provided that the space exceeds specified size limitations! This will however limit the allowable ozone concentration to those which comply with statutory limits for safe exposure under continuous exposure. Unoccupied, higher concentration (shock) treatments are however recommended.
- When compared to traditional germicides, pesticides, bactericides, fungicides or aerosol air fresheners – Ozone is a much more efficient, cleaner, safer, and environmentally friendly option.
- It is Perfectly Safe: No Residual Chemicals – just Clean, Fresh air!
Is Ozone Dangerous?
- Ozone is a toxic gas, just as Bleach is a toxic cleaning agent, Paracetamol is a toxic medication, and Salt is a toxic foodstuff – only if used incorrectly!
- The Ozone levels we produce are relatively small doses designed to kill micro-organisms and there should be no cause for concern. If treatments are carried out in accordance with well established safe practices, just as we should follow instructions for taking medicines etc. - then Ozone is perfectly safe.
- In the UK, the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) is responsible for ensuring that the regulation governing a vast array of industries and situations are adhered to. Our Ozone generators meet all their criteria.
- Comprehensive Safety information is included in the Ozone “Material Safety Data Sheet“, also known as the "MSDS", which accompanies every Ozone Generator which we supply. To view the Ozone “Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS)” – click here.
How is Ozone Environmentally Friendly?
It is true that Ozone is highly toxic to organic matter and organisms – this is why Ozone sanitisation works so well. However, the Ozone used in treatments is confined to the indoor area under treatment. Any small amounts which escape through gaps under external doors and vents etc. quickly decomposes back to natural Oxygen – with No Chemical Residues!
On the other hand - all traditional germicides, pesticides, bactericides, fungicides or even simple air fresheners, leave large amounts of harmful chemical residues after their use - not to mention the copious amont of by-products from their manufacture. Ozone is a much cleaner, safer, and economical option – and is by far the best solution for anyone wishing to reduce their environmental impact.
What is Ozone's Effect on Food?
- Ozone lowers the count of spoilage micro-organisms in wash water and on the produce surface. Ozone has been used in the USA and Europe for many years to improve the shelf-life of stored fruit and vegetables and is widely used on cargo ships to prolong the shelf-life of fruit and vegetables.
- Fruit and Vegetables can be washed in Ozonated water to destroy residual pesticides and destroy food poisoning & spoilage organisms.
- Ozone is used extensively in cheese factories whereby it considerably reduces the damaging mould populations, without tarnishing the appearance or taste of the cheese.
- In countries such as Austria, Germany, Switzerland & France, Ozone has been used over the past 70 years to treat drinking water as well as waste water. It is also used to treat bottled water as well as sterilize bottles in the winemaking industry.
- Ozone is used extensively in Europe & the USA in poultry-handling facilities to destroy residual antibiotics and to kill food poisoning & spoilage organisms.
- Ozone does not leave chemical residues on the food or in the processing water.
- In short – Ozone does NOT degrade foodstuffs: on the other hand, it is beneficial in that it destroys food spoilage & food poisoning organisms such as yeast, mould, fungi, and bacteria (such as E. Coli, Salmonella, Listeria, Staphylococcus Aureus, and Legionella).
What is Ozone’s Organic Status?
Due to the fact that Ozone breaks down without any chemical residuals from the parent treatment agent– it can be considered ORGANIC.
What is Ozone’s Status in Respect to the EU Biocidal Products Directive?
The relatively recent implementation of the EU Biocidal Products Directive 98/8/EC has created havoc in the commercial cleaning and food manufacturing environments, for both the manufacturer/supplier and the end user of previously accepted chemicals for the control of food spoilage and food poisoning organisms. The use of many (previously) commonly used chemicals have now either been banned or their use suspended whilst the chemical companies are required to prove the safety of their formulations – similar to procedures for drug trials. This will take many years and huge investment – which will ultimately drive up the cost of food safety compliance.
In the meanwhile, the end-user now has to utilize more costly and less-effective chemicals.
However, due largely to Ozone’s compliance with chemical residue requirements, the use of Ozone falls outside of the limitations placed by the “Biocidal Products Directive 98/8/EC”. Ozone is thus the product for the future!
Currently – no link between Cancer and Ozone has been proved - so the simple answer is “No”.
What is the difference between an Ozone Generator and an Ioniser?
- An Ioniser disperses charged ions into the surrounding air. These ions attach to airborne particles, giving them an electric (static) charge, which encourages them to attach to nearby surfaces such as walls, furniture, or even to other particles – and they settle out. Some Ionisers have an extremely low capacity air pump which draws some of these particles to the unit and they are trapped in a filter – but are NOT destroyed! The reduction in odours and viruses, bacteria, and spores is therefore extremely limited, and more so, only to airborne particles, which are very close to the Ioniser unit.
- Ionisers cannot disinfect liquids.
- On the other hand, Ozone from an Ozone Generator (sometimes referred to as an Air Purifier), is distributed throughout the entire space being treated, and percolates through fabric, into crevices, and makes contact with every surface in the treated space. Ozone then rapidly destroys the offending Odour-causing particles and bacteria, viruses, mould spores etc. (contaminants).
What about Swine Flu (H1N1) & Bird Flu?
- The simple answer is - Ozone destroys all known viruses – so it will kill the Swine Flu (H1N1) virus & Bird Flu virus. Ozone is effective as a preventive measure against Swine Flu outbreaks.
- Ozone will effectively kill the Virus on all contact surfaces and airborne viral cells which are present at the time of the Ozone application.
- Since the Virus (just like any other organisms) can be re-introduced into the treated zone, the Ozone treatment will effectively assist in the Control (reduction) of infection by stopping cross-contamination away from the treated zone.
Tell me More about Allergy Reduction?
- An allergy is the over-reaction of the body's defence mechanism to something that is usually harmless; the most common reactions include sneezing, watery eyes, itchy rashes, inflamed nasal passages, and swelling of the lips and tongue. Common allergens include house dust mites, mould (mold) / mildew / fungal spores, pet & human dander, pollen, and tobacco smoke.
The allergen, or substance that causes the reaction, usually contains a protein. These proteins (and hence the allergen) are destroyed by Ozone. - Indoor air quality is often as much as 20 times more contaminated with allergens than the air outside. The prevalence of these allergens in domestic environments has increased over the years due to the extent to which our homes are now insulated.
The air in our energy inefficient homes is changed less frequently. The resultant increased stagnation of air is conducive to the increased population of dust mites, since they thrive in warm, humid environments.
Dust mites are minute creatures related to ticks and spiders and live in house dust. They feed upon the dust that comes from our skin and leave droppings everywhere they go. Their droppings contain enzymes that the mites use to digest the skin dust (dander). It is these enzymes that cause the allergy reactions.
Conventional Reduction of Indoor Allergens
There are a number of common sense measures you can take to reduce the allergen content of your environment, particularly dust mites. For example:
- Removing all carpets
- Changing fabric soft furnishings for leather
- Damp dusting and airing your property on a daily basis
- Using hypo-allergenic mattress and quilt covers
- Using a vacuum cleaner with a Hepa-filter
All of these measures will reduce the build up of allergens over a long period of time. However – these methods are normally impractical, costly, and time-consuming.
Ozone Treatment – the Perfect Solution to Allergy Reduction
- An Ozone treatment eliminates any protein based allergen that comes into contact with the Ozone. Consequently, Ozone sanitisation can provide a massive reduction of indoor allergens within a matter of hours. It is not only extremely effective – but is also extremely cost-effective!
- Only Ozone is effective at destroying all of the following Allergens at the same time :
- House Dust Mites
- Tobacco Smoke particles embedded on walls, carpets, curtains, furnishings etc.
- Mould / Mildew / Fungal spores
- Pollen
- Pet & human Dander
- When used at regular intervals, Ozone sanitisation will significantly reduce the accumulation of allergens in any indoor environment - providing a significant improvement to the health and quality of life of those affected by indoor allergies.
How is the Ozone Treatment Carried Out?
The treatment of rooms (and vehicles etc.) against odours, allergy-causing organisms and bacteria etc. is a simple and effortless procedure with minimal preparation :
- Close all widows, doors, vents etc.
- Stand the Ozone generator in the room.
- Select the appropriate running time or programme on the generator.
- Evacuate people and pets.
- Switch the generator on and vacate the premises for the desirable treatment time + the appropriate purge period.
- Return and ventilate the room for a short while.
- Enjoy a sanitized and odour-free environment!
In commercial applications such as food processing areas, commercial kitchens etc., the ozone is usually introduced via the ventilation ducting. The added benefit is that bacteria, viruses and mould spores are killed in their harbourages inside the ducting.
How Long Does the Ozone Last after the Treatment?
- At 200C and normal humidity, Ozone will practically fully decompose back to it’s original state (oxygen) within 1 hour, due to it’s inherent instability.
- Higher temperatures and humidity will accelerate the degradation process. Furthermore, natural ventilation (through-drafts) speed up the purging process – especially if doors and windows are opened soon after the ozone treatment.
- Considering all of the above – 1.5 hours is normally the maximum purging period required.
